Viet Nouveau has been in Mosman for a long time and although it changed hands the chef remained. A tiny restaurant in the main drag in Mosman it caters mainly for locals and is a good place to go if you want to be able to hold a conversation.
The ambience is cosy, almost living room style, good glass and tableware and comfortable chairs. The service is friendly, efficient and although lacking a little polish nothing is a problem.
The food, as the name suggests, is a modern version (or should I say a French influenced version) of Vietnamese food. Much of the traditional spice has been omitted, as has the heat and butter is used, as well. Don’t expect authentic Vietnamese food, nevertheless the food is pleasant, palatable and well presented and a couple of dishes (the Osso Bucco cooked in a clay pot and the Whiting Fillets) are excellent.
They are BYO and full marks for good wine service.
This is a pleasant neighbourhood restaurant, good value for money and well worth a visit.
