The Old School Trattoria

By Franz Scheurer

A schoolhouse in St. Ives until 1989, it was converted into a licensed restaurant with an unmistakably Old World feel. Decoration is as simple as the menu, a trip back memory lane into the seventies where the menu sounded the same in all good Italian restaurants from Gunnedah to Meekatharra.

They serve an antipasto, make pizzas and pasta and serve a few mains and desserts. The chef helps himself from the antipasto for the pizza toppings and the service is friendly and adequate. The pasta is good, the sauces too simple and the best dish is the braised veal shank with roasted vegetables. Servings are huge and value for money is excellent. The wine list, however, is poor, but you are welcome to BYO wine.
