Marco Pierre White - Marco Made Easy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book Review by Franz Scheurer
The idea of having a cookbook that allegedly
'makes Marco easy' does the unexpected and actually manages to present
perfectly achievable recipes for the home cook and recipes that are so
appetizing they might even tempt the casual cook into the kitchen for a
creation that is far beyond what one might expect. You will need to know where
the closest store is that stocks products from the UK and Taste of
Britain is a great on-line
resource. This book is all about creating the perfect meal, using bottles,
packets and jars (probably in the cupboard in the UK but a little harder to
procure here) with using a couple of fresh ingredients. This book is all about
learning to use basic staples like stock cubes, tomato ketchup, mustard, baked
beans, jam, chutney and of course beer and wine. In reality: this book is pure
genius. Start with 'Steak Tartare Americaine'
(page 20) continue on with 'Ceviche of Scallops with Lime, Ginger and
Coriander' (page 45) or one of my favourites 'Shrimps
with Whisky and Girolles' (page 51) and finish with a
'Mango & Ginger Mess'. The recipes are fun and your dinner guests will be
astonished at your cooking prowess.
