A quiet oasis at the edge of a small lake, Lamont’s Margaret River offers al fresco dining on a wooden terrace as well as indoors. The menu is a great read and clever, having renamed their entrées ‘small tastes’, encouraging diners to share and sample a variety of dishes.
We ordered the ‘Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dipping Sauce’, ‘Cream of Asparagus Soup with Goats’ Cheese’, ‘Poached Chicken Quenelles, Wild Mushroom Cream, Venison Prosciutto’, ‘Sumac Spiced Marron, Saffron Labne, Tiny Pappadams’ (all small tastes) as well as a main course of ‘Nannygai (red snapper) with Salt Roasted Kipfler Potatoes, Lime Beurre Blanc and Salmon Guacamole’. Every dish was well crafted and I loved the large-flaked nannygai. The quenelles were the stand-out dish, so good in fact that I am sorry not to have ordered a couple more serves. A bottle of Pascal Jolivet Sancerre 2006 was a terrific, well-priced accompaniment. ‘Orange & Vanilla Doughnuts, Anglaise, Confit Raspberries, Hot Chocolate Sauce’ was an ideal sweet ending.
Service was excellent and friendly and lunch at Lamont’s should be on the itinerary for anyone doing the Margaret River wine trail. Lamont’s cellar door is also located on site and there’s a wonderful art gallery right next door.
Score: 7/10
